How To: Survive the Waiting Game
In this next post of our How To series, we are going to give you insight on what follows the interview, the waiting game. The unknown of your application status can be frustrating. It is important to remember that companies have many urgent responsibilities, so it may take awhile for the employer to contact you back. Do not let this persuade you that you are not in the running for the job anymore.
In the meantime, a follow-up is a good way to keep in contact with the employer. It will inform the employer about the level of interest you still have about the job. There are a few ways that you can follow-up with a potential employer.
A thank-you note is the best form of contact to a potential employer. Why?
1. It is a polite way of contact to thank them for the interview opportunity.
2. You can use it to add crucial information you may have forgotten to mention during the interview.
3. It can either express your interest to the employer or inform them of lack of interest/other job offer.
As a job seeker, it is your responsibility to follow-up with an employer. It is best to keep a list of all thank-you notes sent, including any names you have had contact with and the information provided to you. Having good communication skills is a necessity when job searching. Connect with people through networking. There are many ways to network in today’s world. The more networking you do, the better chance you have to connect with potential employers.
