Encouraging Employee Engagement to Achieve Corporate Goals
Working with many human resources executives, I have found that one of the most common and challenging aspects of their job is to build a team of engaged employees. In other words, employees who are emotionally connected with the organizations as well as its mission and goals. The question is, how do you nurture that connection?
After reflecting on this, I have developed a list of tips to make employees happy and build employee engagement. Check out three of my favorite tips below.
1. Build relationships with each employee. Take the time to talk with your employees about topics that are not only work related. By facilitating two way conversations, you build a level of trust with your employees. This will make them more likely to speak their mind, in turn sharing new ideas and concepts as well as addressing any potential issues they may see in you operations.
2. Nurture a team-focused environment. Encourage employees to build relationships with each other through company events. These can be large events such as a fun day or something as simple as a Friday potluck lunch. Employees will feel the connection with each other and, in turn, the organization.
3. Show your employees that you support them in their career, not just their job. Perhaps the most effective way to do this is through the development of severance packages that include outplacement services. If employees know that they are supported, even during a workforce reduction, they are more likely to be positively engaged, productive, and motivated in their job.
